Launching the SV Amber Clad

Well we finally got the boat in the water today. Newly polished hull thanks to Dad, and I gave the bottom a fresh coat of bottom paint. Keri had to be to work by 2:30 today so it was just a quick trip to the lake to launch the boat, no time for playing today. Now that it is in the water it is just a quick drive to the lake after work for a picnic dinner on the water without the hassle of launching and retrieving from the trailer.

I decided to try launching at the Yacht Club's ramp instead of the city boat launch because it involves much less shuffling of vehicles. The launch ramp is plenty long and steep to launch the Amber Clad, however, the prep area is a little small to get the boat turned around and get the tongue extended so we can launch, but we made it. Everyone was amazed that the little Toyota was able to tow and launch a boat that big and heavy. A larger truck may not have been able to get turned around in the prep area. Spencer is surprisingly stable towing the boat on the highway between Coos Bay and Lakeside, even if he is a little lacking in the horsepower department, and can only cruise at 55 on flat stretches.

Wes and Keri played while I got the rudder rigged and the motor started.

Keri insisted that she was going to park the trailer. She didn't make it 50' before she wanged the fender into a tree on the narrow path to the launch ramp. She claims that she was watching when all of a sudden the trailer "jumped" over and hit the tree.

I have a few last minute projects that still need to be done but they can be done on the water. I also have a list of stuff and supplies that I forgot to pack on the boat started already.

Anyway Wesley is 7 months. He can scramble halfway out of his play-n-pack (for donuts) … almost walk and cry very loud!!!!!!!

So it is 330 AM and i should be getting ready for work but instead..... oh well ;) Wes is now 7 months. He is growing like a weed and is about as easy about that easy to control as well.
If you can't tell from the above pics drew made him a HUGE swing, which he loves. He loves to stand and just learned how to sit down!!!!!!!!!! which i am sooo happy for. anyway off to work for me :(

five month wes

So I have been Lazy I guess, either that or I just find it very hard to blog without someone slobbering all over my keyboard. I am uncertain of what effects baby drool would have on my computer; however, I am confident that the outcome would be horrific. Wesley is now five months. He is on the brink of crawling…. Well he has been almost crawling for the last month. In all honesty he looks like the boy from the jungle book (Mowgli) when he his is walking on his hands. Well a lot less skillful and sometime his head pushed along the floor.

New Years and a first kiss

Ugggg Drew and I are both sick :(I just have to remember this time last year I was much sicker and I did not even know it was because of baby Wesley....... Anyway we went to a fun new years party the other night with some friends (and NOOOO that is not why we are sick) The next night we had Jackson and Addison over to play the Wii. Baby Addison Loves Wes and is always all over him.

While things have been busy busy busy so as always here is a photo update:
We went to the Newport Aquarium

He got a backpack from granmstar and grandpa M so he can ride around with Drew. He is getting a big rug from grandma and pa O so he does have to freeze on our cold hardwood floors.
He started to eat rice ereal which he LOVES!!!
He thinks that he is ready for something new (not happening sorry kid)

Coaly is the best little helper ever. She helps at bath time feeding time (she picks up all the food that he drops) She even lays in-between Wes and the edge of the bed or whatever so he does not fall off she then glare at me like really why do I always have to take care of the baby. To top it all off she only licks when he pulls on her fur… well for that matter she licks all the time but it is only licking. Zephy Zephy is good as well; however, she is off in her own little world spending the majority of the day doing her own thing which considers of sitting in a sun spot.

And how could i almost forget his four month photo shoot.....

Thanksgiving

We were able to go to Redding for Thanksgiving. It was the first big trip for Wesley, which he did very well. I wish i could have slept the whole time. We also took the studio along so heidi could take photos for school, but I made her take a few other photos as well. But only after we had a fun. And Miranda note the puppies in the group photo.

Reed came down for a night before he went to check out OSU Grad school program. We meet Erin and Trevor in Newport for dinner so they could finial meet Wesley…. I don’t think I got to hold him the whole night. Reed even changed 3 dirty diapers for me bring his total to THREE!!!!!!!!!

We drove for about two hours today looking for big waves because they should be about 35 feet, just to find out the best view spot is less then 10 mins from home. Here are some photos + a pic of wes from barbs camera which shows that his hair is not red!!!!!!!!!!

The past year has been the most difficult for me physically, Drew mentally and I guess Wesley socially (until he stops hitting himself in the face and crying about it, he is not ready for the social aspect of life.) well here is a look at the past nine years

After last year where I sincerely tried to listen to the puppies of what they wanted to be for Halloween and they lied to me, I decided this year I would hold them down and make the wear their outfits weather they liked it or not!!! Who knew parenting would help me with dressing the dogs up for Halloween!! Wesley was a sleeping pumpkin. I get the feeling he didn’t like it because he just pooped on it in the end. Anyone want a lightly used pumpkin outfit??? The puppies where cowboys or cowgirls or maybe they were just cows, I don’t know, but they wore their outfits for a few hours which beat five minutes.

Grandma Odendahl

My Grandma Odendahl recently passed away. With Wesley being soo little I was unable to go home for the funeral which was hard. Miranda is in Africa and was also unable to go. Miranda said it the best soo i am just going to copy her.

Well, Grandma – I’m proud of you, too. I’m proud of your strength while dealing with a long, long difficult illness. And I’m happy that your suffering has now come to an end, and I know you are in a better place – telling stories and laughing with Norma and your mom. I’ll miss you, but I know that you’ll be watching out for me from above. Which means that now you’re going to see all the bungee jumping, crazy bus rides, Mardi Gras, safaris and silly things that I didn’t want you to worry about before. I love you!

What does that mean?? Well it means I don’t have enough time to really do anything to my blog but up load a few photos, and do a quick bulletin update.

· Drew is keeping busy, he is teaching two classes for the college in town. What does that mean for me…. It means I stink, yesterday I finial got to take a shower at 10:30 pm

· We are still trying to spend as much time playing with sailboat as we can. Last weekend we even learned how to sail the smaller “Lazer” boats.

· A tsunami hit us the other day. Ok you got me it was only a six inches wave.

Barb and I took wesley to the gardens, he slept the whole time.

A finial note: Molly I know that you read this blog soo I think you and Barb should meet some weekend in Coos Bay or Newport and we could take the boys to the Newport Aquarium or something like that.

Time to Update

Barb is here for a week, which gives me some time to answer a few of the questions people have been asking me. Regretfully, I do not have time to go into too much detail about any one question. Perhaps that is a good thing for everyone. ;)

What have we been up to:

Today we went to the beach with the girls. That was a lot of fun. However, I have a hard time detaching myself from the lifeguard inside of me. Yesterday we went to watch the sailing races at lakeside as well as going for a swim. Sadly I have become that girl I never wanted to become; yes it is true, I didn’t want to get my hair wet.

How is Wes:

He seems to be a healthy happy baby. He sleeps, eats, and poops. He is just starting to smile a little bit when he first wakes up in the morning.

Is he sleeping through the night:

Ummm he is only one month old….. So I am going to have to go with: No. Unless you can count not going to bed until 1:30 am and waking up at 4:30 AM as sleeping through the night.

How was the delivery:

I don’t know how to even answer this one without just making an outline and leaving it at that.
· 1:00 AM Wake up with horrible back pain
· 2:00 AM getting tired of the back pain so I steam roller Drew so he can tell that I am miserable.
Which is not an easy thing to do at 9 months
· 3:00 AM after a hot shower doesn’t seem to help at all we go to the hospital
· 4:00 AM the mid-wife on duty feels sorry for me but think that I am only dilated to a 2 ½ and you need to be at a four before they will keep you
· 5:00 AM I have to wait until 7:00 AM to see if anything changes by the time the Dr. comes in to see if get to stay or not. I try to walk around the hospital jump up and down anything to speed this up.
· 6:00 AM I am in too much pain to walk around only thing that helps is the heat pack, so Drew and I watch u-tube clips in the hospital bed. (He knows just what to do to help, show me clips of people in more pain than me, stupid u-tube how you entertain me.)
· 7:00 AM Dr is running a bit late, Mid-wife feels sorry for me and talk them into keep me and just to induce me because this pain doesn’t seem to be stopping. She breaks my water and the back pain instantaneously goes away. They start my IV.
· 8:00 AM I meet the Dr that will deliver Wes and she doesn’t think that I am in that much pain, well not anymore. (It seems that Wesley’s head was pushing on a nerve, when they broke my water it caused his head to move just enough.)
· 9:00 AM Golden Girls marathon: Woot Woot.
· 10:00 AM not much has happened but Golden Girls are still on TV
· 11:00 AM the first “holy shit, I hate you” contraction hits. Epidural please!!!!!!!!
· 12:00 PM First Epidural Drew almost passes out, I move and it doesn’t work, They try again still no good. (It doesn’t help the I work with and know they guys so that makes it harder some time. The call the Dr in Third try is a charm.
· 1:00 PM -5:00PM all kind of blends together but I never once yelled at Drew I know I’m shocked too. We both just played on the computer to pass the time
· 6:00 PM I find out that “pressure” is pain, and that the epidural doesn’t help with “pressure”
· 7:00 PM they check again to see how things are going it turns into an oh my we need to get the Dr here ASAP
· 8:00 PM Dr shows up at 8:20 we have a long conversation in-between contractions and pushing about the growing problems of STD in nursing homes. Wes is born and 8:45

How is Drew handily everything:

Drew is great, he even read up on how to breast feed while we were in the hospital. So needless to say Drew was the one that had to teach me how to do it. (Drew’s Note: I was board in the tiny room and read the POORLY written 30 second killer whale “how to” flier on the bulletin board.)

Miranda is off to Africa today sad day :( It isn't like I will see her any less or more it is just that I talk to her umm five times a day. So I guess what I am trying to say is I am going to miss my sister and I now have an opening for a new phone buddy I will be talking applications now ;)

We felt that Wes may need his own life jacket and that maybe he shouldn't wear Zeph-Zephs. It is for infant and up to 30 pounds. I think it will last him awhile he still has alot of growing to do.
We went to the lake again yesterday but did not put the sails up. We just motored around, ate lunch and drew went swimming. Wes just slept for the most part.

The puppies got to enjoy some good old bone time while we went to the lake. I am glad that coaly does not know that her legs have bones otherwise we would have a problem.

Monday...er...Tuesday

I woke up this morning at 6:30 ish to pokes in the ribs, and “Will you change the baby.” (Note the absence of a question mark. It was a rhetorical question in the form of a statement.) So I got up and changed the little guy, handed him back to Keri and crawled back into bed. As I drifted back in to snooze-land I was correct in thinking that today was the first day of the week, because of the holiday. My snooze inhibited logic failed, however, when it made the assumption that the first day of the week was still Monday. The thought process was as follows:

Today = First Day of Week
First Day of Week = Monday
Monday = Labor Day Holiday
Labor Day Holiday = No Work Today
No Work Today = Sleep in until at least 9:00

At 6:55 I was again being poked in the ribs:
Keri: “Aren’t you going to get up and shower?”
DrewBee: “But its Monday……”
DrewBee: “Oh, damnit…..its Tuesday, isn’t it.”
Keri: “Yea.”

This weekend I got the opportunity to be the crazy in-law screaming profanities at everyone. Yea for me. I don't know why I thought I would be ok with going out on the sailboat with Wesley. At first we were just going to keep the sails down and motor around to watch the races, one thing led to another and before I knew it we were under sail in the middle of the race. It is not very fun to be holding an infant and unsuspectingly hit a gust of wind. (By the way he fits Zephy's life jacket just perfectly right now!)
This is going to be my first video blog so enjoy. The song I used for this video was also our wedding song but, I thought it worked for this as well. So watch the video and then watch it again only to imagine a bride walking the down aisle.

Wes is two weeks old today. So far he enjoys eating, sleeping, making people change his diaper multiple times in one sitting and oh did I mention eating? After Drews family meets him this weekend I will slow down on the post (maybe) but until then….. more pictures. He is now 8 pounds even and is 21 inches long.

Wes decided that he should be born while his Grandpa and Grandma Miller were on a three week sailing excursion. Therefore we have been texting like crazy because of excessive roaming fees to Canada; we have not been able to talk to them much. We have posted a few (Ok lots) of pictures on Picasa so they can view them when they get to a harbor with internet access.

Well all is well. I don't really have to much time as of late, so I am just going to up load some photos. My Parernts and Miranda are here now. It has been fun so far.

Reed and Amy’s Visit

Monday Reed and Amy rolled into town and where able to stay until Wednesday morning. After we had a quick lunch with Drew at city subs, I had to head to my weekly Doctors appointment, so we sent Reed to Shore Acers and Cape Arago where they were able to see oodles of Sea Lions. While they were enjoying gazing into the beautiful tranquil sapphire ocean I was enduring yet another Doctor appointment where I spent my time pleading with her to make this horrific miserable nightmare end…. Oh and preferable Friday. After all I am thinking long term here and that is Drew’s Birthday. Now how nice would that be to only have to make one cake a year ;). Well she said no and that she didn’t think that I would make another week naturally. “But, but my hip feels like they keeps popping out of place.” I pleaded. (of course that is normal, because every horrific feeling in the world seems to be “normal” during pregnancy.) So I left the Doctor appointment still feeling like this will never end and a Doctor note saying that I was excused from working due to “late pregnancy” AKA my hip keeps popping out of place.

Well back to Reed Visiting. Now that I had the whole day off and Reed is going to stay and hang out, Drew my little “workaholic” took a day off. They got up early to check out the tide pools at low tide because Reed had never done that. I on the other hand did not feel that I was limber enough to waddle around on the soggy rocks.

(I always knew he that he was soo full of himself that that he could shoot rainbows out of his butt; however, I think Amy just relized it)

After they returned we took off to the dunes with the four wheeler. We all enjoyed a quick ride before the bike broke AGAIN while Reed was riding it. At that point we decided it was time to go to the lake. By the way riding around on a bumpy road and driving a four wheeler did not do anything for me as far as speeding up this labor process.

It was a really hot day for Coos Bay, by really hot I am talking low 90’s. Drew even took the puppies for a forced swim while we stopped to eat lunch. (Oh by the way it was only noon, we where cramming as much as we could in to the day .) The puppies hate Swimming but they enjoy being cool after words.

As you can tell zepy was riding Drew more than swimming.
Reed seemed to really enjoy himself on the boat so Drew spent the rest of the time trying to talk Reed into buying a boat as well.

As we were driving home Drew noticed that his phone was still on the boat. Knowing that I wanted him to have a phone with him this week he decided to go back to the boat with Reed while Amy and I went wading at the beach. All and all it was a great day and there really is a ton to do in this small town. ****Hint Hint***** We do like visitors.

The August Rush Begins

August should be a pretty busy month. We expect lots of visitors. Miranda, My Mom and Dad, as well as Reed and Amy. Oh and of course Wesley. Drew’s Mom, Barb stopped by the coast on her way to Washington and spent the day with us. We thought that since she is just on the start of her sailing voyage we would take her out to the Yacht Club, after Drew got home from work. Now that we are "official" members of the Coos Bay Yacht Club we can keep our boat on the lake. My driveway is happy. It is so nice to be able to run down to the club in the evening after work, put the sails up and go out for a sail, for an hour or so.

Barb also helped us try out the delux car seat the Lab Staff was kind enough to get us.

We are firm belivers in animal testing, as you can see we have to test almost everything on the dogs first. They are reluctant but dont seem to mind much as long as they are getting attention.

Making room for 3... I mean 5.

Well the Dr. said she didn’t think I would make it to my due date of Aug 25, but everything is looking fine. I thought it would because you just shouldn’t start out as sick as I did and finish felling horrible as well. Well extra horrible I wouldn’t describe any of this as sunshine and butterflies. But now that I have found a place for all of Wesley’s things I think I need to find a place for Wes.

I also had to make Coaly a new bed today because she was looking really sad. You would think that the other ten dog beds would be enough.

Drew is out fishing with his friends from work right now so this is how I am spending my day. So far they have 12 tuna fish. I am sure he will update everyone on his big Ocean excursion. So if anyone likes to fish maybe you should come and visit us.
