My sister Miranda came from New Orleans to visit for the weekend. Friday I went to Eugene to pick her up and by the time we got back to coos bay it was kind of late so we did not do much, after all tomorrow was Saturday.
First thing Saturday morning we went to the gym. (Fun I know but I had to teach water aerobics and I don’t like to work out if I don’t get paid for it. Hint, why I still teach after all these years. Oh and a free membership dosen't hurt either. Anyway, after the gym we went home to take a shower and somewhere during all of this Zephy got into Miranda’s room, raided her purse only to pillage her bottle of ibuprofen. She chewed it until the lid popped off (luckily Miranda only carries around a few pills in her purse just in case she needs them while she is traveling.) After Miranda was finished with her shower she found a masticated bottle of pills on her bed and one pill with the coating licked off, the rest were gone. She yelled, “Is Ibuprofen OK for dogs to eat?” Within just seconds Drew is on the internet and I am on the phone with the vet. Turns out two is enough to shut down an eight pound dogs kidneys (good thing she is fat and is ten pounds but, that is a different story of which I think I would need a separate blog to bitch about but I am sure Miranda would not have any qualms sharing that story) Anyway the protocol we both obtain from different sources to give her a spoon full of hydrogen peroxide (which is like ipecac for dogs) but of course they will not like this so you may have to make her take it, they should also throw up right away. Just as a precaution we made Coaly takes some as well even though it is very very unlikely, after all she will not eat anything that she thinks tastes bad and she will not chew on bottles. She also never leaves our side because she is a neurotic little dog that has to be within five feet of someone at any given time. After forcing Coaly to take some hydrogen peroxide she started throwing up a little within seconds. Zephy on the other hand liked it, and ate four spoon fulls and wanted more. She just sat there like nothing was wrong. Here is a list of other things Zephy likes; Wine, beer, cranberry juice, scotch and whisky... I could go on but. So we took her up the ER vet and she did finialy throw up. Now all that we could do was wait until the vet got there so he could put her out and give her activated charcoal. (Of course activated charcoal is the first thing she dosen't like to eat).
Meanwhile we decided to take Miranda to Cape Arago and Shore Acres. Unfortunately it was so windy and rainy that it hurt to take your head out of your hood. I guess 50 – 70 miles per hour wind gust are not pleasant when you are standing near the edge of a cliff.
So with the weather being so horrible we just went back to pick up Zephy and take care of her for the rest of the day.
Sunday Zephy was feeling better so we went to Newport to meet Trevor and Erin for lunch at the Rogue Brewery. Then off to Old Town Newport where Miranda saw Sea Lions for the first time. The weather was much better and we even got a single scoop of ice cream to eat while we watched the sea lions. This ice cream shop was kind of weird and a single scoop was actually a double. We were all to chicken to order a double to see it was three or four scoops, I mean we couldn't eat that much ice cream. On our way back home Miranda and I went to Sea Lions caves while Drew fell asleep in the car with the dogs. And to think he only had two beers.
(EDIT: Hey it was Sunday afternoon! Im allowed to take an afternoon nap with the dogs!)
On Monday we tried to do everything Coos Bay has to offer, well for the most part anyway, we didn't hit the casino. I took her to see the lab that I work at. Then we took a walk around Empire lakes.
Then on to the board walk and eating lunch at Subway.
Bastendorf beach.
Shore Acres.
Simpson Beach.
The botanical gardens.
Four wheeling at the dunes and a two second ride on the beach. I should have checked the tied schedule because I think we went right at high tide and the waves where way to close to the truck for my comfort.
Sadly on Tuesday I had to bring Miranda to the airport. I threw up the whole ride and made her drive. Needless to say, I think she was almost to Chicago before I slowly made it back home.

Keri your pictures are so ridiculously amazing. I mean A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I even told Travis I want to move to Oregon. Because subconsciously I am sure that will make all my pictures look as awesome as yours.
It was a good time. Now you need to come out here and take some photos of the bayou (e.g. no waves). I'm sure I'll be back in a few months... :)
Keri:
I think you have a new calling life; writing humorous stories about motherhood, and pending motherhood. Thanks for the laugh! Hope you stop throwing up soon.
SHEESH you look like you two had a BLAST!
I'm jealous ;)
I'm glad Zephy lived (that pic is super cute by the way)
